Kampala, Uganda, 22 January 2024 (ECA)- The Group of 77 countries plus China is an important platform for developing countries to make their collective voices heard at a time when the world is facing multiple crises, said Claver Gatete, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).

The Third South Summit brought together the 134 members of the Group of 77 and China to boost South-South cooperation on trade, investment, sustainable development, climate change, poverty eradication, and digital economy, among other areas. The theme of the summit was “Leaving No One Behind.”

For the year 2024, the Republic of Uganda holds the Chairmanship of the G-77 in New York. The South Summit is the supreme decision-making body of the Group of 77.

Established 59 years ago with an initial membership of 77 countries, the G77 has since grown to 134 countries, becoming the largest inter-governmental organisation of the UN with the mission to promote members' collective economic interests.
